Rightscale is a fully automated cloud management platform. It is a leading SaaS provider, and it provides a range of cloud computing tools for public, private and hybrid clouds. It is mainly used to manage our own cloud infrastructure hosted on different IaaS providers such as AWS, Microsoft Azure etc.
Products and Services Offered
- Rightscale Self Service: Portal for customers/developers to access all their cloud infrastructure on-demand.
- Rightscale Cloud Management: Tools for controlling and managing clouds and resources. Includes Rightscale ServerTemplates.
- Rightscale Cloud Analytics: tools to monitor cloud statistics such as usage and cost across different vendors.
- Rightscale Multi-Cloud Platform: platform to manage multiple environments (AWS, Azure, Google), operating systems (CentOS, Ubuntu, Windows), hypervisors (KVM, Xen, vSphere).
- Server Template: predefined templates with configuration of instances on all environments, enabling customers to launch server directly. They are cloud agnostic, meaning that you can use same template over different infrastructures. They are based on Amazon Machine Image.
- Rightscript: used to install and configure server. Pearl/Ruby/Python/Shell script. 3 types of scripts:
- Boot script: script that runs at boot time
- Operational script: script that runs when server is up
- Decommission script: script that runs just before server is terminated
- Right Image: Image used for OS base installation.
- Rightscale AutoScaling: to ensure scalable website deployment.
How to Launch a Server
- Step 1: Launch a server directly from Server Templates. Define cloud settings and configure using Rightscripts.
- Step 2: Select desired cloud type.
- Step 3: Define specific server settings.
- Step 4: Define server input parameters.
- Step 5: Rightscale requests server in chosen cloud on your behalf based on above settings.
- Step 6: Rightscale configures server according to your settings.
